Spam calls (or messages) are a major issue , nowadays .As they not only annoy us ,they even waste our precious time.Spam calls are not as easily controllable as spam e-mails ,As the latter can be controlled in a matter of clicks (I mean ,most of the time).but when it comes to unsolicited calls you have no other choice other than attending it .There are numerous ways to block calls from a particular number (choosing a method depends on your need and affordability).
To block Calls (or messages) from a particular number :
1. The obvious and the easy way to do this, is to contact your service provider,many service providers provide call filter Service which may includes call (or message) blocking from a particular number .
For example ,Vodafone subscribers in India can avail the call filter service by following these steps .
Step 1: Dial *514# (toll free) and press the call button
Step 2: Select the language of the announcements
Step 3: Select 1 to subscribe
Or alternatively you can also call 55144 and follow the interactive voice menu.

You can also use some of the free call blocking softwares on the internet (like Call Filter,Call Firewall v1.1,Picture Caller ID etc) and If you can afford spending some bucks on this , there are quite a few premium call blocking software (like blackballer etc.), a simple googling could reveal them all.
4. If your mobile phone supports call diversion from a particular number , you can easily divert the call from that number to a non-existing number (or to a random number ).this is the most simplest and cheapest method of all .
5. when it comes to land line phones , you can use any of the call blocking devices available in the market.

if you just want to avoid spam calls (like promotional offers ,ad calls etc) from telemarketers ,you can easily block them by registering yourself at your country’s Do-Not-Call-Registry .
For US citizens : Register at www.donotcall.gov.
For UK citizens : Register at www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
For Indian citizens : Register at www.ndncregistry.gov.in
